So, I set myself a challenge…to find 20 fake friends quotes from the lyrics of songs I know (and some I didn’t). And guess what? I totally bombed it. 😂 I listen to music all the time, but pinpointing songs that talk specifically about fake friendships?
Turns out, it’s not that easy. I feel like I might as well start writing my own songs! But hey, I gave it a shot.
I wasn’t satisfied with what I found—actually, I’m still not. So, I decided to tweak things a bit and put together this list. Some of these quotes are spot-on, directly about fake friends. Others?
I pulled them out of context, but hey, they still make the cut. Let me know what you think. Oh, and if you’ve got any song suggestions with lines that fit, drop them in the comments below. Thanks!
I’ve got some Fake Friends Quotes from the Lyrics
01. “Smiling faces sometimes pretend to be your friend.” – The Undisputed Truth, Smiling Faces Sometimes
I love this line because it totally nails that vibe when someone looks friendly but is actually anything but.

02. “I can tell the fake from the fraud.” – KSI featuring Offset, Cap
Kind of a superpower, right? If only we could all spot a fake the minute they show up.

03. “Trusted too many fake people while I was still young.” – Melanie Martinez, Piggyback
Who hasn’t been there? Real talk: it stings, but it’s also a major life lesson.

05. “Now they want to come around, but they ain’t even know my name.” – Lil Skies featuring Landon Cube, Nowadays
Classic example of people suddenly popping up once you’ve made a name for yourself.
06. “I can’t be no friends with no cap.” – KSI featuring Offset, Cap
Basically, no time for liars. Short, sweet, and something I’m trying to live by.
07. “Smiling faces show no traces of the evil that lurks within.” – The Undisputed Truth, Smiling Faces Sometimes
This one just doubles down on that idea that appearances can be super misleading.
08. “I’m so done with playing piggyback.” – Melanie Martinez, Piggyback
Sounds like she’s over carrying people who don’t carry themselves—relatable if you’ve ever felt used.

09. “I can tell the fake love from a mile away.” – Lil Skies featuring Landon Cube, Nowadays
I wish I had that radar turned on 24/7. Would save so much drama.
10. “They only love you when you’re on top.” – The Weeknd, The Hills
People who are only around for the good times? Yeah, hard pass.
11. “Backstabbers, they smile in your face, all the time they want to take your place.” – The O’Jays, Back Stabbers
Old-school jam, but the theme never gets old: watch your back around those who act too nice.
12. “Fake people showing fake love to me, straight up to my face.” – Drake, Fake Love
At least Drake’s calling them out. If they’re fake, they’re fake—no sugarcoating it.

13. “You got your friends, I got homies.” – Kanye West, Heartless
The way I read it? There’s a difference between surface-level “friends” and the real ones who stick around.
14. “You’re a backstabber, yeah, you’re a heartbreaker.” – Kesha, Backstabber
Kesha just lays it out there. If someone’s spreading rumors or betraying trust, call them out.
15. “You betrayed me.” / “You talked to her when we were together.” – Olivia Rodrigo, Traitor
The betrayal here is obvious, but it fits all kinds of relationships when someone breaks your trust.
16. “They say, ‘You’re a little much for me.'” / “The truth is I am a toy that people enjoy.” – Lorde, Liability
Lorde nails that feeling of being “used up,” then tossed aside. Ouch.

17. “You’re so vain, you probably think this song is about you.” – Carly Simon, You’re So Vain
A timeless line if you’ve ever dealt with someone who thinks the world—or your entire life—revolves around them.
18. “We’re not friends, we’re not enemies.” – Ed Sheeran, Friends
It’s that weird limbo where someone’s not exactly your buddy, but not your arch-nemesis either.
19. “People change, and I don’t know why.” – Mipso, People Change
Sometimes friendships just fade, and you’re left wondering what happened. It’s real life.
20. “You didn’t have to cut me off.” – Gotye ft. Kimbra, Somebody That I Used to Know
Ghosting or cutting ties, call it what you want—it stings the same.

21. “You’re a cold-hearted snake, look into my eyes.” – Paula Abdul, Cold Hearted Snake
Paula’s pointing out someone who’s manipulative and untrustworthy. We’ve all known one or two.
22. “Tell me lies, tell me sweet little lies.” – Fleetwood Mac, Little Lies
Kinda sums up how fake friends might keep the peace by lying straight to your face.
23. “The winner takes it all, the loser has to fall.” – ABBA, The Winner Takes It All
Some people only care about their own success—friendship be damned.
24. “And you give yourself away.” – U2, With or Without You
Over time, people show their true colors. They can’t hide it forever.
25. “I’d catch a grenade for you.” – Bruno Mars, Grenade
The flip side: real friends or lovers would do anything for you, while the fakes? Not so much.

Wrapping It Up
And that’s the list I could pull together from all the songs I know. I couldn’t remember any others off the top of my head with a direct reference to fake friends, but these quotes should do the trick.
If you have any suggestions or know a line that fits perfectly, drop a comment below. I’m open to swapping out quotes or adding new ones to expand this list. Your input could really jazz it up!
